Liposuction is a procedure done to contour the body and remove discrete areas of fat. Liposuction can be done as a procedure on its own or in conjunction with another procedure. It can be performed on various areas, including the abdomen, lateral chest or breast, thighs, hips, arms, and back.

What Does Liposuction Involve?
The process begins with a consultation to discuss your goals, review your health history, and identify the areas you’d like to target. Liposuction works by loosening and suctioning out fat cells through small, discreet incisions using a thin tube called a cannula. The goal is to achieve smooth, natural-looking contours that complement your overall proportions. Areas treated may include abdomen, waist, flanks, lower back, mid and upper back, sides of the breast, arms and thighs. Often liposuction is combined with other surgeries, such as a tummy tuck or breast lift, to achieve optimal contouring and results.

Benefits of Liposuction
-
Removes stubborn fat resistant to healthy eating and exercise
-
Improves body shape and proportions
-
Can be used on multiple areas in one procedure
-
Long-lasting results when combined with a healthy lifestyle
-
Minimal scarring thanks to small, strategically placed incisions
The Procedure
Liposuction is usually performed under general anesthesia. After small incisions are made, a tumescent solution is introduced to minimize bleeding and aid fat removal. The cannula is then used to gently break up and remove fat. The incisions are closed with dissolving sutures. You will go home the same day and have a follow up visit usually 5-8 days after surgery. Showers are usually okay 5 days after surgery.

Recovery
You can expect some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort in the first few days. A compression garment is worn for several weeks to help reduce swelling and support your new contours. Most patients return to light activities within a week, but more strenuous activity should be avoided for about 4 weeks.

Results
Initial results are visible once swelling begins to subside, but the final outcome takes shape over 3–6 months as your body heals. Liposuction provides long-lasting fat reduction in treated areas, as removed fat cells do not grow back. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle helps preserve your results.

Is Liposuction Right for You?

While liposuction provides a more sculpted body shape, it's not a weight-loss solution, and results are best maintained through a healthy lifestyle. It is an excellent procedure for those stubborn areas of fat that just do not budge no matter what you do. It is very important that you have excellent skin quality in the areas you want to have treated with liposuction, and so Dr. Klok will review your area(s) of concerns in detail during consultation and determine if this procedure is right for you.
